Biography

Colin Hutton was born in Glasgow, the son of a soldier. After flirting with the idea of a military career he quickly ditched that thought, and instead trained as a photographer & film-maker at Bournemouth College of Art & Design.

After graduating he worked as a set builder and assistant art director before winning a Fulbright Fellowship in Screenwriting. He spent a year in the USA under the mentorship of William Goldman & John Cleese. He then worked for over a decade as a screenwriter for some of the UK's leading film & TV companies.

Since 2007 Colin has established himself as a versatile photographer predominantly in the world of film & TV publicity. Credits include Sherlock, Ted Lasso, Watchmen, Succession, Broadchurch, Pennyworth, Outnumbered, Humans, A Young Doctor's Notebook, Houdini & Maigret.

He works both as a unit & specials/marketing photographer; inputting into the creative process and coming up with original shoot concepts. This is complemented by his skills in post-production and retouching enabling him to see a project through from conception to completion.

Colin's work has been exhibited: The Royal Photographic Society's International Print Exhibition (2004, 2009 & 2012), the association of Photographers Open Exhibition (2005, 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2014), the Renaissance Photography Prize Exhibition (2009, 2010 & 2012).  Portrait of Britain (2018 & 2019)

He has had three exhibitions of personal work: Human Views at Gallery 5, Notting Hill in October 2008; A406 - Or Knock Very Loudly Please at the Strand Gallery, Charing Cross in March 2015 and Formats at the J/M Gallery, Notting Hill in March 2022
